FINALLY! A SCARF YOUR GUY WILL ACTUALLY WEAR. I PROMISE. “INFINITY With a HALF-TWIST” knitting pattern, part of the SHERLOCK! Collection by Eve Starr Knits

This pattern will be ready for download by mid to late summer, just in time for you to knit a few as gifts before fall gets here! Lots of support here in earlier posts, which I’ll make into permanent pages for your reference.  Learn very useful skills such as GRAFTING GARTER STITCH, CREATING A STABLE CHAINED EDGE, CREATING A CONTRAST CROCHETED EDGING, (AN OPTIONAL I-CORD EDGE TREATMENT), AND CREATING AN INFINITY/MOBIUS-SHAPED PROJECT. 

This was directly inspired by both the Victorian Sherlock Holmes, a la Jeremy Brett, and the brand-new TV version in modern London, “Sherlock!”.  I can see both Sherlocks wearing this elegant ascot with masculine aplomb.  Despite the fact that it’s actually unisex, there is nothing girly about this garment.  I used chunky-weight Eco Alpaca yarn in charcoal grey, and a worsted-weight (doubled) for the edging, also alpaca.  This resulted in a VERY warm scarf, with soft drape from the alpaca. If you live in a warmer climate and want a springier result, think about a blend with Merino wool, or even 100% Merino, loosely spun.

So  don’t forget the guy in your life! If he knows that his neckwear is fashionable and not nerdy, girly, fussy, or whatever else they beef about, I can strongly recommend the upcoming INFINITY WITH A HALF-TWIST.  It’s even easier to wear than a scarf.  Stay tuned!!

Coming: I’ll release this pattern when at least one more version is finished, to compare how the garment behaves when knit at a different gauge, with different fibers, and maybe even different textures.  Like my new “A STUDY IN PINK: PASHMINEH” pattern, we compare LOFT to DRAPE, and make sure that our choices in gauge and yarn help us to achieve which of those attributes we really want.  After the release of my knitted Pashmina though, because our crazy winter never really started, so it’s time to get knitting on an all-season piece.  Stay tuned!
